How to choose fresh dog food
What to look for
- Storage: fresh food needs fridge or freezer space and has a shorter shelf life than kibble.
- Roll or tray sizes: weights run from about 1 lb to 6 lb. The $/lb column makes them comparable.
- Pack counts: multi-packs show total weight in the Weight column.
- Shipping and availability: fresh products can be out of stock or priced differently by region.
- Your dog's own needs come first: age, size, activity, allergies and health conditions all affect what suits a dog, so talk to your vet about diet before you change foods.
